LifeMiles Lunar New Year 2018 Sale with Discounted Star Alliance Awards

Share Asian Miler

Just a few months back, we’ve highlighted the last Avianca LifeMiles sale. That promotion not only gave bonus miles but also had redemption rates for select routes discounted.

This Lunar New Year, a new LifeMiles bonus is back with another promotion.

LifeMiles Lunar New Year 2018 Promotion

The promotion is ongoing until February 28th (CST/GMT-6) for the bonus rates above. But there is a special rate for readers of The Milelion that gives you up to 140% total bonus miles.

The Special Promotion

The Milelion promotes the sale by giving you readers the chance to enter your LifeMiles account number over at this site to register by February 17th, and then after one full day buy miles by February 18th (both CST/GMT-6). Remember, you can only buy the miles at the special rate from the day after you registered.

You get the maximum bonus 140% when you buy at least 101,000 miles, which will cost you something like this:

Promotion Purchase Options

Keep in mind you can buy a maximum of 200,000 LifeMiles in a year. If you’ve bought any miles earlier this year you can only purchase the remaining amount, but the maximum limit count excludes any LifeMiles bonus purchased. Of course, you can always create another account to buy more.

Buying 101,000 miles would bring you a cost of 1.375 cents per mile which is comparable to the last sale but is still, in our opinion, good value.

What can you get with those miles? Take a good look at their Star Alliance awards chart and you may — subject to seat availability — book tickets like:

  • Singapore (South Asia) to San Francisco (North America)
    • First: 99,000
    • Business: 78,000
  • Kuala Lumpur (South Asia) to Hawaii
    • First: 75,000
    • Business: 51,000
  • Manila (North Asia) to Tokyo or Seoul (North Asia)
    • First: 30,000
    • Business: 22,500
  • Singapore (South Asia) to Australia (Other)
    • First: 75,000
    • Business: 50,000
  • Bangkok (South Asia) to Frankfurt (Europe)
    • First: 102,000
    • Business:  78,000

Can you imagine taking a one-way flight from Manila on Business to Seoul on Asiana or to Tokyo on ANA for just US$303 (22,500 x $0.01347)?! That’s unbelievable value right there. For the price, you get to fly on this:

Asiana A350 Business Class

Discounted Star Alliance Awards on Some Routes from Asia

The other interesting part of the promotion is the discounted award rates on some Star Alliance for some routes booked by February 28th (again, CST/GMT-6).

You can browse the list of discounted routes and classes. A few interesting routes on this deal include:

  • Jakarta to San Francisco: 66,500 on Business
  • Hong Kong to Frankfurt: 60,000 on Business or 95,500 on First
  • Hong Kong or Taipei to Vancouver: 56,500 on Business
  • Singapore to New York: 89,500 on First
  • Singapore to Tokyo: 37,500 on First

You should confirm seat availability by using the Avianca LifeMiles award search engine.

Note that, as with any award redemption, there will be some additional booking fee. There are also extra charges for ticket cancellation or itinerary changes.

Final Word

Avianca LifeMiles is great at offering valuable outright miles purchase opportunities. If you haven’t used the program and bought from them before, now is a good time to stock up on some miles for future travel.

It’s great to again see a LifeMiles bonus and discounted Star Alliance award rates. As always, it’s best to see if there are available seats on the awards search engine and compare the cost with buying tickets outright.

Whether you’re redeeming award flights now or for the near future, it never hurts to keep a hundred thousand or so LifeMiles available… You never know when a spot for premium cabin on that dream flight would open up.

Terrible advice to purchase stockpile a volatile currency.

Indeed miles are volatile and I would never recommend keeping them as store of value for very long periods of time. When you have travel plans for the near future then this one of the valuable ways to increase your options, especially for premium cabin classes.
